Another TGYG client Takes the Bahamas Wahoo Championship Leg 2
Posted Date: 02/28/2010
Once again, high winds were prevalent on the first two days of the Second Leg of the 2009-2010 Bahamas Wahoo Championship held at Old Bahama Bay, West End, GBI, affecting the number of entries and the first day of fishing.
The second day was fished under almost ideal weather conditions and finally, THE big Wahoo bite was on! Four boats caught 16 Wahoo which weighed 756 pounds, an amazing average weight of 47.25 pounds per fish. Leading the charge was Marshall Leeds from Boca Raton, Florida fishing his brand new “out of the box” 49’ Spencer. On board with Marshall was the legendary boat builder Paul Spencer. Among the highlights of an incredible day of fishing, “Svengali” brought to the weigh-in station a 102 pound Wahoo- a new Bahamas Wahoo Championship record. Other nice catches were weighed by Frank Marrazzos’s “Troublemaker”, Captained by Brian Weaver, and Pete Hughes’s Bahamas registered “Last Blast”.
On the third and last day of fishing, Marshall along with his Captain Rick Redeker and mate Mike Ritzler continued to find and boat some outstanding Wahoo, including an 85 pound fish and a 52 pounder. All in all, “Svengali” managed to catch Wahoo weighing 102 pounds, 85 pounds, 64 pounds and 52 pounds and a grand total of five Wahoo weighing 341 points to win the tournament.
A mere ½ pound separated the second place boat (Troublemaker) 154.5 points and third place boat (Last Blast) with 154 points.
The third leg of the Bahamas Wahoo Championship now moves on to Port Lucaya, GBI and will be held March 14 to 2010. This event will be held in conjunction with the 31st Annual Bacardi Rum Billfish Tournament.
